A Merchant Guild Inscription was
found at Neduvalampatti in the Kollimalai region 2025
Kollimalai has the famous Arappaliswarar temple, Ettukkaiamman temple, and a few other temples, several sculptures of Ayyanar, Jeyshtadevai, and oilpress inscriptions. Kollimalai is a tourist spot and has pleasant weather. It is a historically important region with several inscriptions. It is in Namakkal district and is part of the Eastern Ghat mountains of South India. It has polished stone axes or "Neolithic" celts in local shrines and megalithic burials.
At Neduvalampatti in Kollimalai, a merchant-guild inscription was found by the researchers from the Department of Maritime History and Marine Archaeology, Tamil University, Thanjavur, V. Selvakumar, Basheer Ahamed, and R. Karthikeyan. The inscription was found on a dressed stone slab. The stone slab has the standing image of Durga/Parameshwari on a peedam, surrounded by the various symbols normally found in the merchant guild inscriptions. The deity is depicted as holding a trident, a sword and a shield. A standing lion with a raised tail with its paw on the peedam is depicted. Around the deity, the symbols of merchant guilds such as drum, lamps, bow and chowri are depicted

This means Neduvalam was Desiasiriyapattanam. Desi refers to the medieval merchant guild of Nanadesis. Pattanam refers to the mercantile town. Asiriyam refers to protection or offering refuge. The inscription indicates that the town was a protected settlement of the merchant guilds of the medieval period. Prof.Y. Subbarayalu helped to read the text. The inscription ends with the work "hara", which refers to Shiva. On stylistic ground it could be dated to the 12th century CE.
Infront of the Merchant Guild Inscription, a stone oilpress/chekku was found without inscription. Nearby a Sanniyasikkal was also found with sacred symbols.

நெடுவலமான தேசி ஆசிரிய பட்டணம் ஹர” என்ற வரிகள் உள்ளன.
நடுவில் வணிகர்
தெய்வமான துர்க்கை-பரமேஸ்வரி ஒரு பீடத்தின் மீது உள்ளது. கையில் கேடயம், திரிசூலம், கத்தி உள்ளிட்ட கருவிகள் கையில் உள்ளன. தெய்வத்தின் அருகில், காலைப் பீடத்தின் மீது வைத்து, உயர்த்திய வாலுடன் ஒரு சிங்கம்
உள்ளது. இக்கல்வெட்டு விளக்கு, சாமரம், உள்ளிட்ட பல வணிகக்குழுச் சின்னங்களுடனும் உள்ளது. இக் கல்வெட்டின் பாடத்தைப் படித்தறிய பேராசிரியர்
எ. சுப்பராயலு உதவினார். இக்கல்வெட்டின் இறுதியில் ”ஹர” என்ற சொல் உள்ளது.
கொல்லிமலையில் இடைக்கால வணிகர்கள் வேளாண் பொருள்களைச் சேகரித்து வணிகம் செய்திருக்கவேண்டும். இதில் உள்ள ஆசிரியம் என்ற சொல் அடைக்கலம், பாதுகாப்பு வழங்குதல் தொடர்பானது எனக் கருதப்படுகிறது. இக்கல்வெட்டு வணிகர்களுக்கு பாதுகாப்பு அளிக்கப்பட்ட மையமாக நெடுவலம் விளங்கியுள்ளதை உணர்த்துகிறது.
ஆசிரியம் தொடர்பான பல கல்வெட்டுக்கள் கிடைத்துள்ளன. அவை வேறுவகையானவை. ஆஷ்ரயம் என்ற சொல் மலையாளத்தில்
பயன்பாட்டில் உள்ளது. தேசி ஆசிரிய பட்டணம் என்ற சொல்லாட்சி பயன்படுத்தப்பட்ட கல்வெட்டு அருப்புக்கோட்டையில் உள்ளது. தேசி ஆசிரிய பட்டிணம் என்பது வணிகர்களுக்கு அடைக்கலம்
அளித்த/பாதுகாக்கப்பட்ட வணிகமையம் என்ற பொருளுடையதாக இருக்கவேண்டும். எழுத்தமைதியின் அடிப்படையில் இது
பொ.ஆ. 12 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சேர்ந்ததாக இருக்கலாம். இக்கல்லின் முன்னர் ஒரு கல் செக்கு, கல்வெட்டு இல்லாமல் காணப்படுகிறது.
